You may have read me write nice things in the past about the record label Turnstile. I’ve blogged about how much I love their artists, we’ve toured with one of their bands, and I endorsed their first ever Bento Box
Well, I’m honoured to say that I was asked to curate Bento #2, and here are the results.
These are four songs from a dark place. At once utterly vulnerable and completely biting. Zola Jesus and Former Ghosts have released, or are shortly to release my two favourite records of the year, in The Spoils and Fleurs, and Elbows Like Swords and White Ring represent bands I am longing to know more about and desperate for a full length from. Best listened to with the lights off.
Tracklist:
Elbows Like Swords – Haunted Mealtimes
Zola Jesus – Smirenye
Former Ghosts – Us And Now
White Ring – Suffocation
Artwork – Cari
Please, if you haven’t already, sign up to the Turnstile mailer to receive these four incredible tracks.
Here.

DO NOT SEND MONIES, THANK YOU.
A couple of weeks back I advertised the fact that we had new t-shirts for sale on this tour. We have done and they’ve been one of the most popular designs we’ve had. They were designed by our friend Sparky Deathcap, strictly for this tour and we’re not intending on bringing any home with us/having them reprinted. BUT we thought it fair in this case that we give those of you who have been unable to attend this tour the opportunity to buy the design. If I have my way these will not be available elsewhere online, or on any future tours. All new merch here on in.
SO…
If you would like to own one of these t-shirts modeled here, then you can do, by paying $23US or £14 to us at romanceisboring@gmail.com, via paypal. We will then package them up and send them out ourselves. This is a short term offer that will run until the weekend, when we start to get ready to come home, so please do not send any funds after 8am GMT on Saturday.
Please, in ordering, be clear to state what size you require. Sizes are as follows:
GIRLY
SMALL
MEDIUM
LARGE
EXTRA LARGE
For reference, these designs are printed on Gildan tees (except for Girly, printed on Bay Island).
If you like, I will ensure your tee has been worn briefly by your chosen Campesinos!, at no extra price.
Thank you for your custom.

Sometimes I pick stuff up off the street.
It’s my shtick, my thing, my inner womble.
Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t.
When we played in LA I found a script on the street between the hotel and starbucks..

As far as I could decipher the main characters in this scene “Claire” and “Ray” are both spies, and have made some kind of vow to leave the spy business together but their work is spilling over into their personal life and they just don’t trust each other.
This is exampled when Claire used her CIA training to analyse their relationships
E.g
(its says Claire: I know the drill, ok. Deny everything, admit nothing, make counter accusations.)
Ray seemed really annoyed and oddly preoccupied wit at how much paperwork it took to stop being a spy.
Ray: I just terminated a 12 year contract with MI6. I spent an hour sigining non disclosure forms.
Ray also worried that Claire had double crossed him, but it turned out that she did leave her job, she just stole some passports first.
I think.
It’s not very clear.
The ending was pretty good though.

Anyway, the more I re read this gold, the more familiar it felt, until it struck me…
This is that Clive Owen and Julia Roberts film that isn’t closer.
This is a draft of Duplicity!
HAHAHAHAHA. I havent even seen this film anod now I probably wont….
Why would someone leave this lying around and not have it framed above their bed?I am hoping it is a section of Julia’s copy and has her tear stains still in it.

Since Friday, we have played three gigs in California. All these gigs have been close enough to our base in Studio City to mean we’ve stayed in the same hotel and commuted to each of the shows at the El Rey, Pomona and Costa Mesa (and all these shows have been so great. Thank you very much for coming along, and for being so friendly towards us). This has meant we’ve had some of the most leisurely, pleasurable days on tour I have ever known. Mornings spent lounging by the pool, before a short drive, a show, and then a short drive back, to a bed with sheets that seem almost homely. Brilliant.
And today we have a day off. Rumours of a trip to The Michael Jackson Death House, but no doubt about a trip to Amoeba. Expect some top class Record Boxing this afternoon.

This was one of the most surreal, amazing moments I have had since being in Los Campesinos!. Thank you Erin.

The Grenada Theatre had a vast amount of food waiting for us on arrival including creamy Brie & a blue cheese that was the best I've tasted in the States, it could have been even an imported Stilton.
Also on the buffet were stuffed vine leaves, olives and a large amount of very sweet and juicey fruit including raspberries and blackberries.
Dinner appeared whilst we were soundchecking. Dinner comprised roasted chicken, rice, grilled vegetables and a vegan risotto. The chicken despite looking very good had been overcooked and was very tough. Luckily we had metal cutlery otherwise you wouldn't have been able to cut it. The vegetables, on the other hand, were very good. They were nice and soft, but had retained a lot of flavour. Sometimes the most simple things are the most effective. The rice had been cooked with something to give it a bit more flavour.
Despite the chicken the catering was superb. If only all venues could make an effort to have that amount of quality food for you.

The thing with Mexican food is that it is quick and simple therefore if you need a quick bite to eat before a show. El Sol y La Luna being two doors down from Emo's seemed perfect. I was tempted by barbeque but decided to give it a miss.
I had a taco and a tostado. The taco had a nice soft tortilla. The chicken was tender with a slight smokey taste to it. The iceberg lettuce, the bedrock of any Mexican salad, was very crispy and there was plenty of chopped sweet tomato in it.
The tostado was again chicken. The tortilla was crispy but not so much that it fell apart when I bit into it. There was far too much gucamole in it, which overpowered the rest of the flavours and left me with hands covered in gucamole.
El Sol y La Luna is a good establishment and the amount of things on the menu was one of the biggest I've seen on tour.
